Asia Bizz: After German automobile manufacturer BMW announced a global recall of about 1.3 million vehicles, the company has now recalled 3,422 units in India. The recall has affected the models of the previous generation –  the 5 and 6 series, manufactured between 2003 and 2010.

BMW in a statement said that there was a possibility that a battery cover inside the boot may be mounted incorrectly. This can also result in an electrical malfunction and due to this problem the vehicle might catch fire in rare cases.

The company also confirmed that no such accident cases have been reported till date. The recall has affected the 5 series models which have been sold in large numbers and the cars of this series have been recalled in India to rectify the problem.

BMW has also assured that the repair will not take more than 30 minutes and will not cost anything for the car owners. The owners of the 5 as well as the 6 series will soon be contacted by the company. In case the owners do not want to get a call, they can always call and check the BMW service centre.
