The Swedish media on August 15, 2012 reported that the number of vehicles produced by Volvo and sold in China has reduced by 28.4 percent in the Chinese market in the month of July. The figures were compared to the same month last year.

Volvo cars lost to the Chinese market which is considered as the third largest after Sweden and the US to its competitors like Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz Infinity and Lexus. The sales of all the competitors increased. Moreover, even in the home market of Sweden, the number of Volvo cars sold in the month if July dropped by 16.3 percent compared to last year.
