Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off the first train Gatimaan Express that will cover the distance of 200 kms between Delhi and Agra in just 100 minutes on April 5, 2016. The train has marked the beginning of the new generation of the semi-high speed trains in the country.
It is not just about its speed, but the train will also be equipped with train hostesses to welcome the passengers with roses. Prabhu at the occasion said, “It is a happy occasion for us as the first semi-high speed train Gatimaan starts today. We want to increase speed of all trains whether ordinary or express as part of our ‘raftar’ mission. It is not an easy task. It will take time but we have made a plan”.
The train has been painted with royal blue and grey color combination with yellow stripes in between and will serve Indian as well as continental food. Gatimaan Express has a 5,500 HP electric Locomotive, eight AC char cars, two executive AC chair cars with a high power emergency braking system with automatic fare alarm. More features on the train includes GPS based passenger information and sliding doors in the coaches.
The passengers will experience enhanced catering service with improved coach interiors, bio-toilets and free multimedia service for the passengers to view movies, news and cartoons.
