Mobile Number Portability Service Takes Effect In India From 20th January

Asia Bizz: The mobile number portability (MNP) service has taken effect in India from the 20th of January, and this will allow users to switch their wireless carrier service without changing their current number. The number will be ported from one provider to another without changing the current SIM card. This a phenomenal feature which gives users the liberty to choose any service provider of their choice without sacrificing the number.

The Mobile Number Portability service can be used on both prepaid an postpaid services, plus it is available on both technologies – CDMA/GSM. After submitting the application for the service change, it will take around seven days to take effect. The switching is quite cheap in India, as it will cost only Rs.19 by the particular service provider.

There are some conditions when one is switching service providers on one’s number, the number of the SIM should not be out of the circle range, for it is compulsory for the user to remain within the home circle during the switch. To avail this service, one will need to send an SMS, PORT to 1900, and will receive a unique code. Take the code and an application form along with a photograph and ID, to the opted service provider and submit it there.
