Maruti Suzuki faces challenges with increased sales and production

Asia Bizz: The MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, Shinzo Nakanishi, has a huge responsibility on his shoulders since Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has a dual responsibility of meeting the rising aspirations of the middle class – who desire for a trendy yet fuel efficient cars –  and to take India in to the big league of international car manufacturing.

The 64-year-old Managing Director has a tough responsibility at a time when the road ahead is surely going to be bumpy. The company is currently  facing a major challenge in the history of its existence as the sales of the vehicles have gone up and it is unable to meet the demands due to the strike at the Manesar plant.

The shortage of diesel engines is another reason for the issue at hand. The impact is so severe that this year the company will sell just a few cars for the first time since its inception, as compared to 2010-11 when it sold more than 1.27 million vehicles.

MSIL also has a huge task of increasing the production of diesel variants of Swift Dzire cars.

At present, the customer has to wait for at least 105 days to get the delivery of Dzire. On the other hand, there is no waiting period for the petrol cars.
