Ranchi administration issues ‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ measure

Asia Bizz: In a good move by the administration of Ranchi, petrol pump owners have been instructed not to give fuel to motorists who do not wear helmets. The officials have asked the fuel stations to display a notice in their premises.

The fuel station owners have also been told to note down the number of the two wheeler if the rider without a helmet tries to get petrol by force. The measure has been taken to ensure the safety of the riders in the city.

One of the officials said that KK Soan the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi has directed all the owners of the petrol pump not to give fuel to two wheeler riders without helmets. The pump owners have also been asked to install CCTV cameras in their premises.

More than 43,000 two wheelers have been registered in the city. Even in the past, the police launched a special drive against those not wearing helmets. Reports said that the police had also started garlanding riders without helmets. On the other hand, the petrol pump owners are sceptical on the move as it would increase their work and also expense to install CCTV cameras.

There are more than 95 petrol stations in Ranchi.

Japan tsunami debris still not cleared due to fear of radiation

Asia Bizz: After the massive earthquake in Japan last year, giant piles of debris have accumulated at the northeast coast of the Asian country. Now that the cleanup process is underway, it is feared that the rubbish may be contaminated by radiation.

After the earthquake, followed by a deadly tsunami in the month of March last year, decades worth of waste was left behind. The quake-tsunami claimed more than 19,000 lives. Now survivors are desperate to re-build and are left with no other option but to dispose off 22 million tons of rubbish which is too much for the region to deal alone.

Several appeals have been made to the national solidarity and worries over the nuclear contamination from the Fukushima power plant, but no one elsewhere in Japan wants the debris to be processed near them.

One of the survivors from the devastated town of Onagawa said that they hope that everything will be quickly taken away as soon as possible so that they can go back to normal life. Environment Minister Goshi Hosono said that facilities across the entire country have to be brought together to deal with the 16 million tons of debris from the Miyago Prefecture. Hosono added that 2.28 million tons of debris has to be treated on site as radioactive elements have been released in the environment in the prefecture.

Asia Bizz: Mobile phone manufacturer Samsung has announced a new operating system update for its Samsung Galaxy Ace SmartPhone in India. This has indicated that the company is updating its Android operating system to Android 2.3.6 for Galaxy Ace S5830.

Reports state that the update is available through Samsung’s dedicated software Kies; but the update will be made available in India for its customers in a gradual manner.

The users with the help of the new update can expect some bug fixes. The Galaxy Ace S5830 has got a number of users along with a range of features since its launch in February 2011.

The phone has a TFT capacitive touchscreen display with 320 X 480 pixels of resolution. The Galaxy Ace has an expandable memory of 32 GB with a RAM of 278 MB. The smartphone also has Wi-Fi connection of 802.2 version which makes it idle for network as well as internet activities. It also has a powerful battery which provides a standby time of 640 hours for 2G and 420 hours for 3G. One can expect a talk time of 11 hours on 2G and 6 hours on 3G. The Galaxy Ace also has 5 MP camera with LED flash, auto focus and face and smile detection.

Hyundai i40 Saloon launched in Korea

Asia Bizz: Korean auto giant Hyundai Motors released its much awaited latest version of the i40 in the South Korean market on January 17 , 2012. The Hyundai i40 Saloon was released in the mid-sized sedan segment.

The new i40 Saloon has attractive looks and is 4.7 meters in length, 1.8meters in width and has a 2.0 litre GDi gasoline engine which has the capacity to deliver an average of 13.1 kmpl.

Hyundai Motors stated that it also has the diesel version of it, which has a 1.7 litre VGT engine with a fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl. The petrol as well as the diesel models come with 6 speed gear box.

The safety features of the new i40 include seven air bags in all the vehicle models and also next generation vehicle dynamic control. Hyundai, in a statement, said that the i40 is a new type of mid sedan with new designs which will appeal young drivers with the help of dynamic riving performance and high quality features. The car has been priced at 25.2 million won and 31.5 million won depending on the engine type and accessories. The company officials stated that they do not have any plans to introduce the vehicle in Europe or other overseas countries at present.

Asia Bizz: It seems like search engine giants like Google, Yahoo and social networking sites like Facebook are in trouble as the Indian government has decided to take action against them. Indian prosecutors are taking the internet giants to court as they refused to remove content considered insulting to Indian leaders, as well as major religious figures in the country.

The officials of the Indian government are upset about the content related to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and other major leaders. Some of the content has even showed Singh and Gandhi in compromising positions while pigs are seen running through Mecca which is considered as the holiest city of Islam.

On January 13, 2012, the federal government told the New Delhi court that there was enough evidence to proceed against the 21 sites for offences of promoting enmity between classes and causing prejudice to national integration.

The lawsuit has been filed against Microsoft, Yahoo, Google and Facebook, who represent a business in the country of 1 billion people, who look towards technology to boost their economy as well as their standard of living. If convicted, it could result in fines and imprisonment up to five years. Last year, India’s telecommunications minister warned the social networking sites regarding to remove the controversial content.

The company also added that the data can be used for a general knowledge or entertainment, but cannot be used for the information on the PhD dissertations.

Asia Bizz: The government of China is now taking more measures on the safety of the Chinese web browsers. The government has joined hands with some of the local search engines like Sohu.com and Baidu and also with some financial institutions to prevent phishing attacks on unsuspecting Chinese web browsers.

When a user is parted with his own user name or password through a fake webpage which closely resembles the original; with the help of the collaboration, the official websites of many of the Chinese banks like Chine Construction Bank and the Agricultural Bank of India will be ranked first in the engine when the user looks for the related keywords.

This will automatically reduce the risk of such attacks. The measure has been taken by the government after China urged tighter security on December 28, 2011 after certain reports of personal data leaks which alarmed the online community.
