On the condition of anonymity, one of the senior police officials said, “We will seek further custody of the players in the court as we need to interrogate them further”. The official went on to say that 11 bookmakers have been arrested as part of the same inquiry and will also appear in court in New Delhi’s Saket.

Sreesanth has played 27 Tests for India and is alleged to have been paid Rs. 4 million to give away 14 runs in an over in a match against Kings XI Punjab on May 9, 2013. According to investigators, they have seized Rs. 20 lakh found in a cricket kit bag hidden in a house belonging to a relative of Chandila in Haryana.

Police officers who were investigating this case said that the three were acting under the orders from international crime syndicates.

Deepak Prakash, the advocate for the cricketer opposed Delhi Police’s plea for a seven-day custody for the interrogation of all the accused. Prakash stated that he told the chief metropolitan magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma that the star is innocent and that there is no evidence against him in the case.

The advocate said, “The police have not produced any direct evidence against Sreesanth. He is innocent and has been framed in the case”. Prakash went on to say that the police just produced certain excerpts of the tapped conversation of bookies, but in which the name of Sreesanth has not even cropped up.

The advocate opposed the plea and said that the probe agency has failed to provide any preliminary evidence against the cricketer. Prakash also informed the media that Sreesanth is totally broken and that he will try for his bail after meeting him at the police station. Sreesanth was brought in the court premises in a separate car with his face hidden under a black cloth.

The orders for the tests were given by the sport minister Jitendra Singh. For more than a month, Vijender has been virtually untraceable and has also not attended the national camp at NIS Patiala, where the rest of the boxers are receiving their training.

The tests were conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency on April 3, 2013, as a part of the competition tests.

Singh was interrogated for about three hours on Monday about his involvement in last week’s major drug racket revelation. During the interrogation, the boxer had avoided several questions about the drug bust at the narcotic smuggler Anoop Singh’s home in Zirakpur, Mohali.

According to sources from the police, Vijender is unlikely to be interrogated again. National boxing coach GS Sandhu, said that Vijender had asked for a break from a camp at NIS Patiala until March 17, 2013 to sort things out.
