Asia Bizz: Caterpillar Inc., also known as CAT, has recently unveiled its CAT B10 rugged Android smartphone. CAT, the renowned manufacturer of mining and construction equipment, announced a new smartphone which it claims is water proof and rugged.
The new CAT B10 phone is IP-67 certified which means that it can withstand water, dust, drops and even impacts. In order to protect the phone from any impact, the phone has been placed in a one-inch thick casing.
Even the protective glass on the device that secures the display is provided by Asahi, which is a leader in automotive glass manufacturer. The display of the smartphone is scratch and crack resistant.
The new CAT B10 runs on Android Gingerbread Operating System and features a new three touchscreen key menu, search and return, which has been made mandatory for all the Android Ice Cream Sandwich based devices. So one can also expect that the company to soon introduce a 4.0 upgrade in the near future.
The company has not announced any official time for the upgrade.
The CAT B10 also features an 800 MHz processor, five megapixelcamera with a front VGA camera for video conferencing. The device is 3G capable and has dual SIM connectivity options.
The device will come at a price tag of 370 Euros or Rs 25,000 and is expected to be released in May 2012.
