Indian auto giant Tata Motors is at present working on a new small car for the Indian market. The new model will be competing with the company’s current rivals Maruti Suzuki and Ford Motors.
The new car will be built on the basis of the refurbished Indica platform and has been code-named ‘X0’. It is expected to be one of the biggest launches when it is unveiled in the year 2015. Karl Slym the managing director of Tata Motors is now aiming to deliver a contemporary vehicle which appeals the youth. Slym has played an important role in introducing vehicles like the ‘Spark’ and the ‘Beat’ for General Motors India.
Industry sources who are aware of the latest developments have said that the company could introduce a new product quickly, easily and cheaply with the help of the existing Indica platform. A person from the company, on the condition of anonymity said, “A common man does not see the platform; he or she is attracted by the style, design and features. The new X0 intends to deliver just that with almost 75% change in body in (terms of) white (body panels)”.
The car is expected to be powered by a 1.05-liter three-cylinder diesel engine and a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine.
