Indian railways announced a new facility for the physically challenged travelers. Passengers will be allowed to utilize concessions in train tickets without any trouble, by being issued with photo identity cards. The ID cards will be used to book tickets at the counters, as well as over the Internet.

The card issued by the Indian railways will come with a unique ID number; it will need to be carried during the rail journey so that it can be verified onboard. Until now, physically challenged persons had to fill concession forms and produce all relevant documents at the ticket reservation counter to avail concession in train tickets.

According to this new system, physically challenged person needs to come to the Divisional Railway Manager office with necessary documents in original claiming concession and passport size photograph in order to be issued a photo identity card.

The person also has to provide his or her mobile number for communication while they apply for the card. After the formality of verification by the concerned zonal railways, a photo identity will be printed with a unique ID.
