Asia Bizz: Employees of the Nokia Siemens Networks India, Orgadam Factory in Chennai have gone on an indefinite strike from April 9, 2012 onwards. The spokesperson of an employee association of the company said that they have begun the strike and have brought production to a stand still to protect against the recent sacking of some 50 employees.
The company has indicated that the production facility is running normally. The president of the Nokia Siemens Networks India Employees Association, E Muthukumar said that on April 4, 2012 that the company sacked 52 employees without any prior notice and proper reason.
Muthukumar added that they also initiated an inquiry against the employees. The president further informed that about 260 permanent employees have gone on an indefinite strike after the company failed to state any reason for the sacking of the employees.
Satendra Singh, the company’s head of manufacturing operations in an emailed statement said that the production operations at the Orgadam facility are running normally. The statement added that they have offered their colleagues an opportunity to have an open dialogue to understand the employees’ concerns in a manner that is mutually conducive and rational in approach.
