Former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf was recently arrested by the police in connection to the murder case of Baloch rebel leader Akbar Bugti. Musharraf was arrested on June 13, 2013, according to the various media reports in Pakistan.
Additional reports have revealed that the former president has been sent to two weeks of judicial custody, during which he is expected to stay at his farmhouse on the outskirts of Islamabad. His villa has been declared as a sub-jail after his first arrest in April 2013. In March 2013, Musharraf returned to his home country after four years of self-imposed exile and is now officially forbidden to leave Pakistan.
The former Pakistani President has been arrested over a number of high-profile cases against him, including the assassination of the former president Benazir Bhutto in 2007. Bugti was killed in a military operation which was ordered by Musharraf in 2006, at the time when he was the President and the army chief of Pakistan.
The death of Bugti angered the Pakistani people and initiated protests across the country. Tehrik-e-Taliban issued many threats regarding the assassination of the former President. The militants of the group were angered when Musharraf launched an operation against the extremists who were holed up in Lal Masjid in Islamabad in 2007.
