Asia Bizz: The operator of au mobile phone services, KDDI Corp revealed on February 19, 2012 that the data communications were disrupted on the night of February 18. The disruption in the service affected more than 6.15 million phones and smartphones.
The company spokesperson said that the company’s proprietary ezweb email service was disrupted around 8:35 pm till just before midnight. Reports say that is was the largest data disruption for the company since August 2003 when 12.79 million of its cell phones were affected due to a similar problem.
The problem on February 18 was caused due to an electricity power supply failure to a batch of email servers. The company insisted that the incident did not affect the voice calls and the internet access.
The company presumes that the failure might have caused due to an increase in the smartphone traffic. Such problems arise also arise due to infrastructure problems. The KDDI’s competitor NTT Docomo Inc was recently cautioned by the government to implement countermeasures like improving its facilities.
