Asia Bizz: Chinese telecommunications equipment company Huawei launched its Ascend Quad series of smartphones on February 26, 2012. The new series is an in-house developed quad ore processor.
Huawei is now trying its best to become a competitor towards the high end smartphone space. Till now the company has tasted some success in the low end smartphone sector, but at an event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain the company made it clear about its intentions to move up in the world market an compete with the giants like Apple, Samsung and HTC.
The company has launched the Ascend D Quad and the Ascend D Quad XL, which are both powered by Android 4.0. The features of the smartphones include 4.5 inch high resolution screen, 8 mega pixel camera which records movies up to 1080 p. Both the phones come with a memory of 8 GB.
Huawei has not yet announced the pricing of the new phones, but Richard Yu, the chairman of Huawei Device said that the phones will be 20 to 50 percent cheaper than the competing products. Initially the phones will be supporting 3G only, but by the second half of 2012 the company will ship LTE (Long Term Evolutions) versions too.
