Asia Bizz: Indian-made tablet PC Aakash – which is manufactured by Datawind –  is set to face a lot more competition in the Indian market. After the launch of the BSNL tablets, another Android tablet called the ATab will soon be launched in the Indian market.

The new ATab will be priced at Rs. 5,000 and is all set to hit the market in the second week of March. The ATab will be launched by an International education company known as AcrossWorld in collaboration with Delhi-based company Go-Tech.

The new Android tablet is expected to have a 7-inch advanced touchscreen display with 1.1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM and 2GB inbuilt memory that can be expandable up to 16 GB. The connectivity features of the tablet include 3G USB Dongle and Wi-Fi.

The tablet will allow a three year free access to education technology platform ‘EducationBridge’. The platform allows teachers, academic institutions as well as students to use a variety of content as well as educational resources through software known as open source. Even though the tablet is not cheap as the Aakash, analysts state that users will definitely consider buying the ATab due to its price as it promises better durability. The officials from the company said that number of schools and educational institutions have expressed interest in the tablet.

Given the fact that the reviews of the Aakash tablet PC were not very convincing, users are sure to give a another brand a chance to see if a tablet PC is well worth their money.
