Asia Bizz: The Delhi Consumer Forum has asked Samsung India Electronics to pay a customer Rs 45,000 for selling her a defective Television. The company has been asked to pay damages to cause her physical as well as mental pain.

The city District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has held the company, its service centre as well as the franchise ‘deficient in service’. The Forum has directed the company to pay back one of its customers Rs 12,622 as the price of the TV set, Rs 5,500 as litigation cost and Rs 25,000 as compensation.

The forum said stated that there was a clear case of deficiency made out against the three and have directed the company to pay Rs 12, 622 as the price of the TV. Rakesh Kapoor, the forum president, gave the order on the plea of Shivani, a resident of Ashok Vihar in Delhi.

Shivani had approached the forum saying that she had purchased a Samsung TV in April 2008 that had a defect of a colour patch. The complainant said that the TV was repaired only after repeated requests but as the problems persists, the set was replaced. But after a few months the replaced TV too showed some signs of defects after which she approached the forum as the company failed to redress her grievance.
