Asia Bizz: American car maker Ford India launched the new version of its mid-sized sedan Fiesta on March 14, 2012. The new Fiesta has been priced between Rs. 7.23 lakhs and Rs. 8.99 lakhs . The new range of the sedan is cheaper by 1.45 lakhs and Ford has christened the new version as Fiesta Ambiente, it is available in petrol as well as diesel versions.

The Ambiente versions of Fiesta have been powered by 1,500 cc engines and will be a replacement for the earlier 2011 version of the Fiesta that was launched last year in the month of July, 2011. The earlier version of the car was priced between Rs 8.25 lakhs and Rs 10.44 lakhs ex-showroom price for the petrol and diesel variants respectively.

Michael Boneham, the Ford India president and managing director, during the launch of the sedan, said that the company is trying to respond to the changing market dynamics as well as the evolving needs of the customers in India.

The new Fiesta Ambiente will be competing in the market again the other vehicles like Honda City and Honda Verna that are priced between Rs 6.99 lakhs and Rs 10.30 lakhs ex-showroom price Delhi respectively. Last month ford launched the automatic transmission variant of the Fiesta Patrol variant and is priced between Rs 8.99 lakhs and Rs 9.70 lakhs ex-showroom price Delhi.

Ford India earlier said that it intends to introduce eight new models in the Indian market by the year 2015. Before the launch of the new Fiesta, the company slashed the prices of the 2011 version of the Fiesta by up to one lakh. Now the older Fiesta begins at Rs 7.23 lakh. At the same time,  the automaker has rationalized the number of variants and has brought it down to two trims in petrol a well as diesel versions with five speed manual transmission.
