Asia Bizz: In the last couple of years, the Indian market has seen a phenomenal increase in the demand of diesel cars. The diesel cars are now high in demand due to the rising prices of petrol in the country and for this reason, manufacturers are working over time to offer efficient as well as low on emission cars in the country; to make it the second fastest growing small car market in the world.
The diesel car market in the country will continue to bloom unless there are some radical changes in the 2012-13 Union Budget. American auto company General Motors is one of the manufacturers, who is working hard on the research and development in India so as to offer affordable diesel cars in the country.
Last year, the company launched its Beat diesel hatchback with a 1.0 litre mill, which is the smallest engine from GM and is exclusively manufactured in India. Now the company is working on a slightly bigger engine which will be added in the upcoming Sail sedan and hatchback and also the SAIC MPV, all that were displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo held in Delhi.
Moreover, the company also intends to export its technology and engines to the other diesel intensive markets in the world.
