Asia Bizz: In the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL),  Disney characters have never been seen in and around the cricket pitch. But soon this is expected to change. Mukesh Ambani’s IPL team Mumbai Indians has recently signed a brand alliance with Walt Disney India.

With the new association, Mickey Mouse , who is one of the world’s recognizable brands, will now be associated with cricket – namely the Mumbai Indians.

The Mumbai Indians were the runners-up last year and the world’s most famous mouse created in the year 1928 is going to be the team’s ambassador.

With the help of the new association, the IPL team now can attract children under 14 by putting Mickey’s image on the merchandise ranging from school bags and cricket balls. Last year, the Mumbai Indian team faced a lot of criticism due to its name; then they went on to win the Champions League Twenty20.

Nita Ambani, who runs the company which owns the cricket team, said “Today, we count over 2.8 million Facebook fans on our website, the largest amongst the franchisees. This brand alliance with a global, iconic family brand like Disney says it all with the trust and faith they have imposed in MI.”
