Asia Bizz: Japanese car making giant Mitsubishi will soon launch its Mirage hatchback in Thailand. The budget five-door hatchback from the company will be launched in the Thai market by the end of this year.
The company has described the new hatchback as a global compact car and it will be launched in the other south east Asian nations before it goes on sale in Japan, Europe and other global markets. The Mirage hatchback is expected to arrive in the UK market in the year 2013 and will b replacing the old Colt.
The new Mirage is the company’s plan to focus on global models for the emerging market and also to start offering the electric cars. Osamu Masuko, the Company President, said that Thailand was selected as the first market for the Mirage as the country has a strong eco-car programme.
Masuko added that the Mirage is an all new compact car focused on premium fuel efficiency with low CO2 emissions and is best for times when the demand for the superior fuel and eco-friendliness is increasing all over the world.
The Mirage comes with a 1.2 litre engine and the company claims that it will have a fuel economy of 62 mpg. Mitsubishi aims to sell 2500 units per month in Thailand.
