Asia Bizz: Indian airline giants Indigo and Jet Airways have announced that they have pulled out content from the popular online ticket booking site MakeMyTrip.com. The Jet Airways and Indigo Airlines constitute more than 50 percent of the market share in domestic flying.
The airlines have decided to minimise the sales of tickets from the website, as they feel that the portal was showing favouritism towards some of the other airlines like GoAir, Spice Jet and Kingfisher Airlines.
It has also been alleged by the airlines that the portal was following opaque fare policy, which is according to the airlines anti- consumer. As both the airlines together constitute almost 50 to 60 % of market share, it can result in major revenue losses for the portal.
When contacted Indigo, the airline said that their arbitrary display of fares and opaque pricing is anti-consumer and also violates the directives and norms of DGCA. The airline added that even in the past the company has many times raised the issue but there has been no resolution, due to which they decided to take the drastic step. On the other hand Make My Trip said that the inventory and the fares are controlled by the airlines and are also as per the guidelines.
