Fire broke out at one of the car manufacturing facilities of Mahindra & Mahindra at Nashik on may 9, 2012. The fire, which has now been brought under control, caused a major loss of about 250 vehicles.

M&M in a filing to the BSE, “The fire has been confined to this specific area. There has been no casualty. As a safety measure, the operations of the Plant have been suspended in the first shift… The production loss in the first shift is estimated to be around 250 vehicles”. Fire broke out at the area of the Scorpio unit and within the premises of the plant.

At present the company is ascertaining the cause and even the extent of damage due to the fire that broke out in the storage area related to the manufacturing of Scorpio as well as the Xylo lines at the Nashik Plant 1. The company added, “The Plant assets are adequately covered by insurance. The Management expects to restart the Bolero and Verito lines fully and the Scorpio line partially from the second shift onwards”.

Udaykumar Vaidya, the M&M Senior General Manager said that the spare parts of the vehicle including the Scorpio were kept at the areas affected logistics department along with some cardboard and plastic material.
