After the tremendous win of the Indian Premiere League team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the fifth season, chief minister Mamata Banerjee, greeted the players at the Eden Gardens on May 29, 2012. The players of the team were felicitated by the chief minister and she even sang the team song.

Apart from being a part of the celebration Banerjee also took over the crowd, gave a speech on the state’s financial condition and criticised the media people for not behaving. The CM was gracious enough to be a part of the victory lap at the stadium.

Mamata said, “I am going to start the run, I’m getting on to the field now. No music please,” while hundreds of people at the stadium cheered. However the CM instructed that only the team players must take part in the victory lap and that everyone else must sit down.

She instructed the media people not to block the KKR players. The CM was also requested to dance by the co-owner of the team Shahrukh Khan, but Banerjee politely declined. The Kolkata Knight Riders on May 28 beat the Chennai Super Kings headed by MS Dhoni, at the final match.
