The family of Ruchika Girhotra has withdrawn the torture charges against the former Deputy General of Police (DGP) of Haryana SPS Rathore. The family has told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that they do not have any objection to closing of the case.
Rathore was earlier alleged to Ruchika’s brother. About 20 months back the CBI had filed a closure report. The case had garnered plenty of attention when teenager Ruchika Girhotra committed suicide after allegedly being molested and harassed by the former cop.
Reports say that Ruchika’s father and brother have withdrawn three cases against Rathore. Rathore was facing a six months sentence by the Chandigarh court, after a public outcry. Anand Prakash a family friend of the Girhotra family and also the father of Ruchika’s friend Aradhana Gupta, said that Mr. Girhotra is frustrated and that he does not have financial or physical resources to pursue the case.
Prakash even added that the CBI hundred percent favoured Rathore in the case. In the year 2009, a CBI court in Chandigarh found Rathore guilty and sentenced him to six years of rigorous imprisonment for molesting 14 year old Ruchika on August 12, 1990. Rathore is currently out on bail.
