Asia Bizz: Seems like the drop in the value  the Indian rupee is going to significantly affect the prices of the electronic products in the country. Electronic major Sony has already raised the prices of its laptops and notebooks earlier this year, on June 8, 2012 said that it would further hike the prices of its products after the month of September.

The company said that it would further hike the prices of its products if the rupee continues to drop against dollar. Sachin Thapar, the IT and mobile business head of Sony India said, “We adjusted prices of our laptops and notebooks by 10 to 15 percent from January to March. We will try to hold back prices at least up to September this year”.

Thapar also informed that the upcoming hike would affect across all its products . The mobile business head added, “Price hike would be our last option. But if the rupee depreciates further to an unprecedented level, then we would have to increase prices of every laptop and notebook model”.

Thapar revealed that the company is now aiming to see a 33 percent jump in the Notebook and sales to Rs. 20 billion in the current fiscal year from Rs. 15 billion last year.
