Japan based auto giant Nissan Motors is now planning to launch its Infinity brand in the Indian market. On the other hand even Toyota is planning to bring its Lexus in the country so this is the right time or Nissan to increase the competition in the market which is at present dominated by Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi.
Andy Palmer, the Nissan Vice President said, “The market for luxury in India is growing and the company is looking at ways to enter. Infiniti is our global brand and our intention is to cover the world, including India. We currently sell around 1,50,000 units worldwide and plan to grow this to 5,00,000 units. We are launching the brand in many different countries, though we are yet to find a solution for India.” The car making giant does not intend to import the cars in the country ahs complete built in unit but intends to assemble them locally.
Palmer added that they will have to compete with the manufacturers like Mercedes Benz and BMW, who are also producing somewhat locally. If the cars are brought in the country has complete built in unit then they would become very expensive due to the high import duty.
