Computer manufacturing giant HCL Infosystems on June 19 said that it will be launching a third generation 3G tablet PC in the month of August, 2012 in the Indian market. The tablet has been tentatively named as Y2 and will cost about Rs. 18,000.
Gautam Advani, the Executive VP and Head of HCL Infosystems said “The code name of the product is Y2 and it will be launched in August”. Advani added that the company enjoys 15 percent market share in the overall market while in the Rs. 10,000 segment it is about 50 percent.
HCL entered in to the tablet market in the month of October last year with the launch of ‘Me Tab X1’ at Rs. 10,990. Then in the month of April this year the company came out with another tablet U1 which was priced at Rs. 7,999.
The Executive VP of HCL added that the Me Tablets have been in the market for about eight months during which they have got a good response from the consumers. HCL on June 19 launched two models under the range of AIO (All In One) PCs in a price range of Rs. 37,908 to Rs. 33,696 and smart series laptop at Rs. 20,990.
