The makers of the popular phone BlackBerry, Research In Motion on June 20 announced the launch of the BlackBerry Porsche, which has been developed in association with Porsche Design early this year. The new smartphone from the company, P-9981 is an ultra premium phone named as Rs. 1.39 lakh.
Sunil Dutt the RIM India managing director, while talking about the aspirational phone said that the phone is about power, style and aspiration. Dutt said, “We will not be selling this through the traditional channels. The discerning customers can order their phones to begin with and later on, we will have select outlets like luxe watch and accessories showroom located on the high streets”.
The RIM India managing director also added, “The domestic smartphone market is growing at over 40 percent this year, after clipping at 87 percent in 2011. I am sure that we will be able to grow much faster than the industry rate”. However, Dutt refused to put a number.
The new high end ultra premium phone comes with a stainless steel frame, hand wrapped leather back cover, crystal clear touch display and sculpted Qwerty keyboard. The phone also has an exclusive pin which helps in the identification of the use.
