Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki is working hard on developing its technically advanced 800 cc car. The company is working at its Gurgaon plant so that the new car launches before the festive season.

With the launch of the new 800 cc car, the company aims to regain its market share in the segment, as its best selling Alto has been falling in recent days. Trail runs have already begun of the new models and the work on the rest will quickly catch speed after the maintenance shutdown at the Gurgaon factory comes to an end on July 1, 2012.

One of the senior official of Maruti Suzuki said, “The new car has been designed very carefully, keeping in mind the competition and requirements of customers in that segment.” Hormazd Sorabjee, the Editor Autocar India said that the gap between the commencement of the trail runs and the launch usually ranges from 3 to 4 months.

In terms of looks, the new 800 cc car appears like to be a cross between the A-Star and the Alto models. The new 800 cc car is developed on the existing Alto platform and is expected to have a modified variant of the 800 cc petrol power train which also serves the Alto.
