Indian two-wheeler manufacturing giant Bajaj Auto on June 28 indicated that it might increase the prices of its products. The company cited the constant rising of the raw material costs due to the depreciation of rupee.
K Srinivas, the Bajaj Auto President Motorcycle business said, “Definitely we are seeing a pressure on raw materials, because raw materials are usually corrected to the dollar rate. Some cost increases or price increases may be around the corner”. Bajaj has earlier this year also increased the prices of its products while mentioning the high input costs.
Srinivas also said that the motorcycle industry is already highly localised and that any imports by the companies are partly due to the cost advantage. The President also said, “The day cost advantage vanishes, we will stop importing such stuff”.
Bajaj has also unveiled the 125 cc Discover ST which is a more expensive model than the earlier one. The company already boasts a 125 cc Discover priced at Rs. 51,127, while the new Discover ST is priced at Rs. 55,740 ex-showroom Tamil Nadu. The new Discover ST comes with features like mono-shock suspension, a first in its category. But Srinivas clarified that the new Discover ST is not an upgraded version of the earlier Discover.
