In order to tackle the problem of illegal railway ticket agents who corner Tatkal tickets and then sell them to genuine passengers, the Indian Railways has taken a new measure to eradicate this loophole. Indian Railways on June 29, 2012 said that there will be separate timings for the Tatkal and advance bookings.
There is also a proposal to have separate counters for booking tatkal tickets and also stricter vigilance and surveillance with the help of the CCTV at the railway counters. The officials have proposed to begin the Tatkal bookings from 10 am and other advance bookings from 8 am.
A meeting will be held with the top officials on Monday to discuss the proposals. Attempts will also be made in terms of internet bookings in which only one Tatkal booking per computer will be allowed. A software will be introduced by Railways which will allow just one booking per IP address.
Railway officials said that the booking clerk will not be allowed to use the mobile phones during working hours. A recent sting operation had exposed how the illegal agents have taken a full control over the emergency tickets after which the Indian Railways has got in to action and has made it mandatory for the passengers to produce identity cards.
