TRAI the telecom regulator might revise upwards the proposed minimum price for sale of spectrum. TRAI chairman Rahul Khullar in a meeting with the consumer groups said, “It is not 1 paisa or 2 paise (increase) … but also not 16 paise or 25 paise as projected by operators.”
The telecom regulator has proposed the minimum price of airwaves for pan-Indian operations of more than Rs. 18,000 crore, which is around ten times more than the amount paid by the old operators. The telecom operators have said that the new prices recommended by TRAI will result in the increase in the existing tariffs up to 100 percent.
