Many regions in Northwest India has experienced a good spell of rain in the past few days. The regions like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand have received good rainfall and now there are chances that the monsoon system might take some break.
In the next few days this can also threaten to undo the gains recorded in the month of July so far. The Met officials said that a break in the monsoon is expected between July 14, 2012 and next Thursday.
Between this time, only light sporadic showers might occur over the region. The trend so far is keeping with the prediction that the northwest would receive the lowest rainfall. But the repeated breaks in the monsoon, is worrying as unless the rainfall in the month of July and August is close to the levels of anticipated by the Met, the overall precipitation is likely to fall.
On Friday heavy rains were reported over several parts of Delhi in the morning and again in the evening. The rain is expected to recede in the northwest, but the Met officials said that the monsoon is expected to gain strength over the southern peninsula after 2 to 3 days. Experts have said that the upcoming week might not see an overall improvement in rainfall in the country.
