Mumbai-Gondia Vidharbha express on July 19, 2012 collided with Kasara-Ubermali local train in Thane district of Maharashtra. The train traffic on the Kalyan-Kasara section of the Central Railway in Thane has been affected due to the collision between the trains.

A top official said that the traffic at the route will be fully restored by early Saturday. One person has been killed and four are seriously injured in the accident. The incident happened when Vidharbha express collided with the derailed bogeys of a local train on the route.

Earlier the officials put the death toll to three which was later revised to one. Subodh Jain the Central Railway General manager said, “We will open one of the two lines by Friday mid-night and the second one by Saturday morning”. In the mean time some of the long distance trains will run through Manmad.

Jain added that the mishap occurred that after the loco pilot of Vidharbha express applied emergency brakes when he spotted the derailed local train on the tracks. The time lag between the derailed local train coming to halt and the collision was just 1.17 seconds, while the loco pilots did his best possible attempt by applying brakes. But this resulted in one of the bogeys of Vidharbha Express piling up top of another.
