Power regulator DERC, in a major reform initiative has decided to introduce a new system a new system under which the tariff will be charged according to the electricity consumption in peak and off peak hours. The new mechanism has been aimed at encouraging consumers to limit their power consumption during the peak hours.

The Delhi Regulatory Electricity Commission said that the new mechanism will be introduced on a pilot basis. The new system is known as the Time of Day (TOD) metering and is also expected to discourage the commercial users from consuming more power during the peak hours which will help in reducing in minimising the load shedding in residential areas when the demand goes up.
