Indian badminton player, Saina Nehwal within just 38 minutes left behind Dutch Yao Jie 21-14, 21-16 and glided in to the quarter finals of the badminton women’s singles at the Wenbley Arena on August 1, 2012. Nehwal seemed like she was in good form at the London Olympics 2012 against the veteran.
Saina at the quarterfinals will be playing with the winner of the match between Sayaka Sato of Japan and Tine Baun of Denmark. Parupalli Kashyap, from India at the men’s singles became the first Indian man to quarters of Olympic men’s singles badminton.
Kashyap had fought a hard fight against Sri Lanka’s Niluka Katunaratne at the Wembly Arena on August 1, 2012. The Indian player will now meet Lee Chong Wei, world number one from the Malaysian quarterfinals. Kashyap said, “I was tired as he was retrieving everything. But I decided to stay with him in rallies and that helped me.”
Nehwal is a Khal Ratna badminton player from India and has been ranked number five in the world by the Badminton World Federation. The Indian player is also is also the first Indian to reach the singles at the Olympics and the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championship.
