The Yamuna Expressway which was conceived way back in the year 2001 will finally be opened for the public on August 9, 2012. The 165 kms long expressway will be inaugurated by the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The expressway which is worth Rs. 11, 000 crore is the country’s longest six laned access controlled stretch and has also missed multiple deadlines. The expressway had recently got the UP Govenment’s approval.
Sources have mentioned that the Chief Minister will inaugurate the expressway by pressing a button from Lucknow. An official said, “Due to prior engagements, the CM cannot make it to Greater Noida for the inauguration ceremony. He will do the honours from Lucknow”.
The Jaypee Group has planned a grand affair for the opening and the details will soon be announced. Unconfirmed sources have revealed that three to four ministers from the state government and several dignitaries will be attending the inaugural function. After the expressway is operational, it will connect the Greater Noida with Agra and will reduce the travel time between the two locations from four hours to less than 100 minutes. The state government last month already notified the speed limit of 100 kmph for cars and 60 kmph for heavy vehicles.
