The official sources have said that the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will host a lunch for the MPs of the ruling alliance as well as the supporting parties on August 6, 2012. The lunch will be hosted ahead of the presidential elections to be held on August 7, 2012.
A similar lunch was hosted just before the presidential elections on July 18, 2012. Sources have said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) nominee and incumbent Hamid Ansari is ahead of his rival Jaswant Singh who is backed by NDA.
Though Ansari seems to led in the race, the lunch would add value among the alliance partners as well as the parties supporting from outside. A month long Monsoon Session of the Parliament will begin on August 8, 2012.
The lunch will be hosted at the Ashoka Hotel and is expected to be attended by Congress, National Congress Party. Trinamool Congress, DMK, Rashtriya Lok Dal, and the National Conference, leaers of the parties like Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Bahujan Samaj Party and the LOk Janshakti Party. It has been predicted by the government sources that Ansari will get a support of around 500 votes out of the total 790 votes of the parliamentarians, who form the electoral college to elect the Vice President.
