Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar at the 2012 London Olympics managed to bag the silver medal in the 66 KG freestyle category after he was defeated by Tatsuhiro Yonemitsufrom Japan by 3-1 in the gold medal fight on August 12, 2012.
Though Kumar finished second, he has recorded his name in the history for becoming the first person ever to win back to back individual Olympics Medals after he won a bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This was the fourth wrestling medal for India at the Olympics with KD Jadhav in the year 1952 and Yogeshwar Dutt in the year 2012 as the earlier winner.
With Sushil’s win at the Olympics, India has secured a total of six medals which was the best show at the biggest sports extravaganza. The Indians secured medals in wrestling and shooting, two in each while women boxing and badminton added one medal each.
India had high hopes with Sushil Kumar for a gold, when he reached the finals but the Japanese rival managed to grab the top spot. The secretary General of Wrestling Federation, Raj Singh said that before final and after the semifinal he had a bout of diarrhea and had also vomited as he had eaten something which did not suit him.
