On August 18, 2012 the engine of the Shramshakti Express derailed in the morning in a yard near Kanpur Station. The derailment of the engine had disrupted the train traffic on the Jhansi-Banda route.
However no passenger has been injured in the derailment. The accident took place at 6 am in the morning when the train had just left and was coming to Kanpur from Delhi.
It had halted at the Juhi Yard just near the main station. As soon as the train came in from the Juhi Yard the engine derailed. Sandeep Mathur the Chief PRO at the North Central Railways said that the train was moving at a slow speed due to which no passengers were injured.
All the passengers on the train got down at the Juhi Yard itself as it was close to the main station. The Delhi Howrah route has not been affected by the derailment but the Jhansi-Banda route has been disrupted. Work to restore the traffic on the route is in progress. Indian railways has always been prone to accidents despite several efforts made by the Railway ministry in terms of safety. The Ministry has always made efforts only in terms of improving of the service than in safety.
