On August 23, 2012 an Assam legislator was arrested for his role in the ethnic violence in the state. Pradeep Brahma is an MLA from the Bodoland People’s Front and has been held after seven cases has been registered against him in Fakiragram and Dotama Police stations in Kokrajhar districts.

The BPF party is led by the Hagrama Mihilary and is in power in the Bodoland Territorial Council which runs the four Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts. The party is also a partner in the state’s Congress led government. For now an indefinite curfew has been imposed in Kokrajhar after fresh violence in Dhubri district on Wednesday night.
