There are possibilities that the German auto maker Volkwagen might increase the prices of its flagship vehicles Polo and midsized sedan Vento by up to 3 percent. However, the company is yet to confirm the news officially.
Sources from the company who are familiar with the development said that the prices of the vehicles Polo and Vento will be increased soon. No official date has been announced and the company spokesperson even declined to comment on hike in prices and said, “We cannot comment on market speculation”.
The Polo and the Vento models were introduced in India in the year 2010 and the two have become the flagship models for the car maker. Volkswagen also sells the premium sedan Jetta, luxury sedan Passat and premium SUV Touareg and Beetle in the Indian market.
The company also has a manufacturing facility at Chakan in the state of Maharashtra with an annual capacity of 1.10 lakh units. It was observed that the sales of the Volkswagen models declined marginally in the month of June at 5,371 units compared to the 5,397 units during the same period last year. The cars makers in India have been thinking of increasing the prices of their vehicles due to the depreciation of rupee against dollar.
