On August 24, 2012 the Custom Officials in Japan have appealed the owners of the bank notes, stock certificates and foreign currency which was seized by occupying forced at the end of the World War II, to come forward. Seven decades have passed and around 870,000 items of the confiscated items under on the orders of the Allied Forces were still being kept.

The custom officials wait for about 268,000 legal owners to claim them. The Allied Forces was led by US General Douglas MacArthur, who controlled Japan till 1952. The Allied Forces also limited the inflow of assets amidst fears f hyperinflation and economic chaos if the floods of returnees brought with them large amounts of liquid assets.
