Okinawa might be threatened by a powerful typhoon packing winds up to 215 kms per hour on August 25, 2012. It is predicted to be the strongest typhoon which is likely to hit the southern Japanese Islands in several years.

The Island weather officials said that the Typhoon Bolaven is expected to reach Okinawa on August 26, 2012. Bolaven was approaching Minami Daito Island which is some 400 KM southeast of Okinawa. The maximum winds near the eye are projected at 180 kph. The officials said that the weather on Saturday morning in Naha which is the capital of Okinawa prefecture was still sunny with mild winds.
