India will soon have its first high speed rail network between Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The High Speed Rail Corporation of India will be taking over the process. The new service will reduce the travel time from eight hours to about two hours.

The HSRCI will formally be launched by the Railways minister Mukul Roy in the month of September, 2012. After concentrating on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad project, the HSRCI will be venturing on the other routes like Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar, Delhi-Agra-Lucknow-Varanasi-Patna, Howrah-Haldia-Hyderabad-Chennai and Bangalore-Coimbatore-Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram. The projects will be prepared by the company related to the studies, technical standards and providing support to government in finalizing and implementation models.
