Newly appointed President of India, Pranab Mukherjee for the first time after being appointed will be visiting Chennai on September 8, 2012. The President will be visiting the capital of Tamil Nadu to participate in the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Madras High Court.
Even the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be arriving here on Saturday through Sriharikota where the ISRO will fire the 100th Indian space mission on September 9, 2012. As a precaution the Chennai police has deployed 5,000 policemen for security.
A mock security drill was held on September 5, 2012 and the surveillance has been increased in the crowded areas including the railway stations and bus stands apart from the markets. The armed policemen will be on guard on all the roads which will be used by the President’s motorcade including the GST road and Anna Salai.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan in an official release said that Pranab’s visit to Chennai and Tirupati would be the first to a state outside Delhi after he assumed the office. The President is expected to arrive in Chennai at 1:15 pm and will be at the Raj Bhavan at 2:15 pm for lunch which will be hosted by the governor K Rosaiah. By 4:15 pm the President will be going to Madras High court to mark the 150th Anniversary.
