A chopper pilot of the Indian Air Force who had taken the AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi to a riot hit areas of lower Assam from Guwahati airport on September 11, 2012, had refused to take him back citing bad weather. The pilot maintained his stance despite the intervention of the defence minister AK Antony.
Sources had mentioned that the Guwahati ATC had cleared its flight but the IAF had reports of bad weather. The IAF chopper had carried Rahul from Dhubri to Kokrajhar and then returned to Guwahati by road. Rahul will be returning by a special aircraft to New Delhi. The IAF refused to reveal the name of the pilot.
