On September 18, 2012, everyone will come to know if the Trinamool Congress, the second largest constituent of the 40 month old government, would be a part of the government. All the ministers, senior leaders and heads of different wings of the party have been directed by the party chief Mamata Banerjee to assemble at the Town hall in the evening on Tuesday.

As per things on Tuesday morning Mamata is almost certain to pull back her ministers. Trinamool has one cabinet (railways) and six ministers of state like such in tourism, urban development, rural development, health shipping, information and brpadcasting.

A 72 hour deadline was given by Mamata on September 15, 2012 in a protest rally in Kolkata, to the centre while threatening to take a tough stand which may not be liked by some. Banerjee said, “We will wait till Tuesday. If the centre does not reconsider, we’ll have to take a tough decision. I hope people won’t misunderstand me…We have only the railway ministry. We don’t mind if it is taken away”.

There are strong reports that Trinamool would walk out of the government but would continu to give outside support. This has sent strong signals that Mamata is not ready to compromise when it comes to fundamental policies.
