After the Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee, announced the withdrawal of support to the government, the Congress called a meeting on September 19, 2012 with Party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The meeting was called for deliberating over the strategy ahead.

The meeting was called at the Prime Minister’s residence. On September 18, 2012 the Trinamool Congress Congress decided to withdraw its ministers from the Union Government. The second biggest constituent of UPA said that the party could even reconsider if the government rolls back its decision on the FDI, which raised the cap on the subsidised LPG from six to 12 cylinders apart from reducing the diesel hike from Rs. 5 by Rs. 3 or Rs. 4.
