Japan based consumer electronics firm ‘Akai’, on October 4, 2012, said that it has launched a ‘Smart Box’, which allows users to surf the internet through their television sets. The new ‘Smart Box’ has been launched at the price of Rs. 6,590 in the Indian market.

This year the Japanese company is targeting revenues of Rs. 250 crore, and expects sales of approximately one hundred thousand devices in the coming three to four months. The Smart Box is an Android based device, powered by a 1.25 Ghz processor and comes with a wireless mouse for navigation. The device is also equipped with 4 Gb internal memory and is expandable up to 32 Gb through its SD card slot.
